Linda Heaviside MS, LAPC, NCC - I am honored to partner with my clients on their journeys toward hope and resourcefulness.

Most individuals who seek counseling desire to create positive change that will result in their ability to reach their goals and find fulfillment. In part, I help my clients achieve positive change through validating and encouraging their strengths and values. I also work with my clients to evaluate beliefs and behaviors that may hinder progress toward their goals. Early on in my sessions, I provide tools that individuals can learn to use to help themselves and thus become empowered to take ownership of their own growth. As part of my holistic approach to counseling, as well, I teach mindfulness and stress reduction skills, provide psycho-education and promote overall wellness. Throughout the counseling process, I gently guide individuals through their emotions to help them obtain relief and understanding. I respect that each client is unique and has individualized needs, beliefs, abilities and circumstances.

The most important aspect of this effort toward positive change and discovery of potential is the collaborative relationship I develop with my clients. Therefore, I strive to create an accepting, safe and respectful therapeutic environment. My clients tell me that these qualities enhance their therapy because they feel supported and understood. When clients recognize that they are not alone on their journeys they challenge themselves in new ways to reach their goals.

I believe in the wisdom of my clients and I am always learning from them.
One thing that I have learned is that each individual moves toward his or her goal at a different pace and with a different style of movement. I therefore adjust my approach to fit each unique process. In essence, I integrate elements from several therapeutic perspectives including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Theory, Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Psychodynamic Theory. I will explain the purpose of any technique I use and I welcome questions. I continually check in with my clients to see how we can improve our relationship and the process we are undertaking.
